Golf Classic – Friday 6th June 2014

HOPE03 held a Golf Classic at Rockmount Golf Club on Friday 6th June 2014.

All proceeds from this tournament were divided between the Welcome Organisation and Extern’s Ormeau Centre, both based in Belfast.  Like all charities in these days of economic hardship, funds are not easy to obtain and we are pleased to donate  proceeds from the Golf Classic to both these organisations.

The Welcome Organisation is a Registered Charity that works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and rough sleeping. They do this by giving practical support, advice, information and access to a range of health and well being services to people living in the city. They aim to bring a little dignity and warmth to lives that do not have the ‘luxury’ of a home.

Extern’s Ormeau Centre is located in Belfast City Centre, provides temporary accommodation to people aged 18+ who are homeless. They work with people to address issues that have led to their homelessness ranging from affordability of accommodation through to therapeutic interventions for those with more complex needs. Residents are supported to access benefits, address health and wellbeing issues, access local community based services, identify training and employment opportunities and find permanent accommodation.

Michael Killen from the Welcome Organisation also added “At the Welcome Organisation we open our doors 14 hours every day of the year to support people make the journey out of homelessness.  As we see more and more people turn to us in these hard times, without the goodwill and support of groups like HOPE03, it would be impossible for us to continue our work to alleviate the trauma of homelessness.”

Danny McQuillan, Director of Safer Communities and Homelessness at Extern stated “Extern believes that everyone can make a positive contribution to society and we are delighted that HOPE03 have chosen to support this vision and the work of Extern. We have been providing support to people affected by homelessness for over 30 years and with HOPE03’s support we will be able to enrich the lives and provide additional support to the most vulnerable in our society”.

Quiz Night – Friday 7th March 2014

A very successful quiz night was held on Friday 7th March in the Ivanhoe, Carryduff. Thanks to all involved, and a special thanks to all our sponsors, especially Stephen Magorrian for donating the wine and Frank McCourt for organising the event. The full amount raised amounted to £1020.60. It’s never too late to donate, you can do so on our website with Paypal.

I don’t think anyone will forget that Paddington the Bear is originally from Peru after this event!

Coffee Morning – 1st December 2013

A coffee morning was held on the 1st December after the Sunday masses to celebrate HOPE03’s 10th Birthday and to present the cheque of over £2000.00 to Royal Victoria Hospital’s Dr. Frank Casey. The money was raised from last years marathon runners. Here is what Dr. Casey had to say on HOPE03’s work in raising money for the Heartbeat Trust…..

“On behalf of all the staff in the Paediatric Cardiology Department at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children I would like to thank you and all your colleagues in Hope O3 for your very kind donation of £2046.50 to the Children’s Heartbeat Trust. We will ensure that this money is put to good use in helping support families who have to travel outside of Belfast for their children to have heart surgery. In particular I would also like to thank Conor Fitzpatrick and his friends who participated in the Belfast Marathon to help raise this money.”

A massive thanks again to everyone who has contributed over the last 10 years.

Belfast City Marathon – May 2013

Last year, there was great interest in relay teams signing up to run on behalf of HOPE 03 with 28 participants running on the day (including one full marathon runner and two 9 mile walkers).

All monies raised through marathon sponsorship go directly to helping families who are facing financial hardship as a result of the new changes recently announced to the Children’s Cardiac Surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital. You can read more about this here.

A total of £2046.50 was raised by all the runners, and a cheque was presented at our 10 year tea and coffee morning celebrations on the 1st December.
